Trampoline Size Guide for Dublin Gardens

By Dublin Trampolines Teamโ€ขUpdated October 2026

The right size is decided by your garden first and your children second. Start with the space, then pick the biggest trampoline that fits it comfortably.

The rule: 2 metres clear on every side

Allow 2 metres of clear space on every side of the trampoline, free of walls, fences, trees and sheds. In practice that means the trampoline's diameter plus 4 metres in each direction.

    Space needed for each size

6.5ft (200cm): 6m ร— 6m of clear space. For compact gardens and younger children, with a 50kg limit.

    9ft (270cm): 7m ร— 7m. Suits two young children.

    11ft (330cm): 7.5m ร— 7.5m. The most popular size in Ireland.

    12.5ft (380cm): 8m ร— 8m. For larger gardens and older children.

    14ft (430cm): 8.5m ร— 8.5m. For teenagers.

17 ร— 11ft oval (520cm): 9.2m ร— 7.5m. For long gardens, with room for two children at once.

    Choosing a shape

Round trampolines suit most gardens and younger children, because the springs pull the bounce towards the centre. Oval (Grand) trampolines fit gardens that are longer than they are wide, giving a similar jumping area in less width. Rectangular (Ultim) trampolines give a powerful, even bounce and are preferred by gymnasts, but they ask more skill of the jumper.

    If the garden is tight

An InGround trampoline does not need less space, but it sits lower and looks smaller in the garden, with the mat 10 to 20cm above the lawn and no ladder. A FlatGround trampoline sits completely flush. Both need digging, and FlatGround needs a level, well-drained site.
